Areas in Nice

The Old Town

The Old Town or ‘Vieille Ville’ is one of the most visited areas in Nice. The tall Italianate buildings dating back to the 16th Century lining the quintessential narrow, meandering lanes, the colorful street markets, atmospheric buzz, and enticing local bars make this part of the city unique. A traditional medieval village Vieux Nice is home to a variety of characteristic shops selling Provencal fabrics, local cultural items, and Nicoise delicacies.

The Promenade

Nothing characterizes Nice more than the Promenade des Anglais. The promenade is beautifully lined with palm trees and is right next to the turquoise Mediterranean sea. It is enjoyed by the easy amblers, the power walkers, the runners of all ages, rollerbladers, cyclists, and busking musicians as well as those who would prefer simply to sit back (on one of the many blue chairs bordering the promenade with the sea) watching everyone.

The Port

The Port of Nice beautifully collides both sides of this magical city. Tiny traditional fishing boats line up across from Superyachts, cruise ships, and passenger ferries The Port quarter is ringed with cafés and restaurants ranging from Michelin-starred brasseries to humble eateries offering a variety of traditional dishes from fresh seafood to socca (a typical Nicois pancake made from chickpeas), and jugs of wine.

Carre d'Or

Located between Place Massena and the classy Musiciens area, Carré d'Or is one of the most stylish addresses in Nice. Nice’s ‘Golden Square’ is the heart of Nice. Interspersed between the luxurious buildings are glamorous boutiques and interior design stores, as well as local bakeries and fine epiceries.

The Center

The City Centre is in many ways the ‘New Town’ of Nice. The area to the east of Avenue Jean Medecin and north of the Old Town is a typically French area. The busy streets are full of shops and boutiques as well as a generous assortment of restaurants. The Jean Médecin high street is serviced by the Nice Tramway which is a perfect means to get around.

Musiciens

Nice’s Quartier des Musiciens (Musician’s Quarter) lies to the West of the Carre d’Or. It is so called thanks to the sheer number of street names in this area honouring famous composers. The bourgeois blocks of buildings are known for their imposing and ornate façades, high ceilings, and delicate, little French elevators! Exclusive and grand by day, reclusive and calm by night.
